Coastal Investigation: Shelters

Grade 5 and 6 spent Thrusday afternoon in the natural coastal environment at the edge of the school grounds. Challenged by Mrs Wells to imagine they were stranded, students worked in 2 groups to build a shelter to protect them.  There were lots of great discussions about what resources could be used, how to prioritise, what jobs needed to be done and how the work should be shared between group members.  

While unfinished, great progress was made! Students are keen for next Thursday so they can explore their inquiry questions further like:

"Can we make a fire?"

"How can we make our shelter waterproof?"

"Can we see what food we can find at the beach?"

"Can we go fishing?"

"Do we have to share?"

What fun to make practicacl connections to classroom learning about Science, Geography, History, Personal and Social Capabilities, Health and Wellbeing!
