From Kendal's Desk
Another incredible fortnight has flown by!
This week our combined Hero for HeartKids and B Kinder day was a huge success with many inspiring hero costumes including parents, teachers, professionals and many, may super heroes with capes, wings and webs! It is fantastic that our students see so many different people as their heroes and are able to have such wonderful role models. Some of our local heroes were able to attend and bring their vehicles for us to check out. There was also a very noisy sound off! Through the B Kinder Foundation, we spent some time learning about Billie Kinder and the legacy she has left behind to make the world a kinder place. We raised $100 to donate to Heart Kids, so thank you and well done.
Last week we took our team of grade 3-6s, plus a few grade 2s, to compete in the SPSSA Cross Country at Bayview Secondary College. Every single member of our team gave 110% and displayed the best respect and sportsmanship that they could. We had our grade three girls and grade six boys win their team events and our grade four girls placed. In a fabulous surprise Swansea finished in second place overall! Well done team! Following on from this, we took a team of 12 students to Symmons Plains on Tuesday to participate in the Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country. It was a tough course with some amazing runners from across the state and I am proud to say that Swansea really turned in up a notch and smashed out some amazing runs!
A couple of Friday’s ago on Moderation Day our staff were very busy with their own learning and development. Our Teaching Assistants travelled to Hobart to attend Professional Learning focussed on Qualiteach, increasing their understanding around the evidence-based approach to the teaching of reading. Our Teaching staff and Admin team travelled to Triabunna District School for moderation of student work samples and sharing of resources. These sessions were all very valuable and we have already implemented some learnings from this day within our practices. Thank you to our amazing staff for always learning and upskilling themselves so they can provide the best learning opportunities and environments for our students.
One thing I have noticed while being at Swansea is just how much our whole school community interacts and engages with our students. This is something that I am very proud to be a part of. It is not often that EFA’s, Admin and volunteers are seen having such positive moments with young people in schools, often they are just too busy doing their job. Here at Swansea, I regularly see our staff making the time for these wonderful moments – just like Andrew & Carlix.
Finally, I hope to see as many families as possible at our Term 2 assembly on Wednesday June 26th at 1:30pm in Swan Hall.
Thanks for your continued support,
Kendal King
