From Anna's Desk

Dear parents, families, students and community members,

We have had some wonderful community activities over the last week and I am continually amazed by how lucky it is for our Swansea kids to grow up in this community. Last Friday, students took part in Walk Safely to School Day. This annual event is an important date on the calendar, reminding students of the benefits of physical activity and the importance of road safety when walking to and from school. Thank you to the families who walked to school with us, it was a great morning. Also on Friday, Grade 6 Student Leaders were “out and about” with Steve and Linda from the Salvation Army. Students helped Steve and Linda with the Red Shield Appeal and were able to converse with the public while fundraising. Grade 6’s will have two more opportunities this term out and about, once visiting the Heritage Museum and another visiting the RSL. These opportunities foster community connectedness and we thank Steve and Linda for organising the activities.

This week is Volunteer’s Week. Swansea Primary School would not run the same without our volunteers and I would like to thank every volunteer for the work that they do to support our school. Our volunteers help in a range of ways, including our breakfast program, helping to run Woodwork at the Men’s Shed, in classrooms, and through our School Association. If you would like to become a volunteer through the school please contact us through the office.

Next Thursday, 29th May, we are holding our whole school Cross Country Carnival. This will be held at Jubilee Beach. Spectators are welcome and it will be great to see everyone there cheering our students on. Grade 3 – 6 students will then travel to Hobart on Monday 2nd June for the SPSSA Cross Country Carnival. Good luck to our runners!

Kind regards,

Anna Knowles
