Bush Tucker Garden

On 19th of March, some grade 6’s planted some Aboriginal Plants in the Bush Tucker Garden at SPS.

Alpine mint:

Alpine mints are perfect for birthday parties, weddings, or any type of family gathering. Alpine Mint is not a real mint. It is an evergreen bush that grows in rocky areas of mountainous regions. You can use alpine mint in the same way as regular mint such is in brownies or to make tea.

Mountain Pepper:

The fresh leaves of mountain pepper are suitable for use as a fresh herb, garnish or in the manufacture of pastes and purees. Traditionally, mountain pepper was used for its antiseptic properties and flavour. Dried leaf is used as flakes but mostly used as a spicy ingredient in flour mixes, sauces, mustards, soups, stews, cheeses and flavoured pasta.

Mountain Plum Pine

The Mountain Plum Pine is one of Australia’s few native conifers from a plant family which has existed in Southern Hemisphere. Mountain Plum Pine is a species of podocarp native throughout the Australian high country, from southern Tasmania through to the New South Wales highlands. You can eat the sweet fruit straight from the plant.
