Principals Report
Today the whole school community celebrated the joy that books bring to our lives. Our annual Book Week parade was a huge success, with all the students, staff and some parents dressing up as a character from a book. We were also joined by some of our Launch into Learning families and would like to thank Lady Gowrie Childcare for joining us too! It was truly wonderful to see the effort and engagement from everyone. The buzz around the school this morning was due to all the students excitedly guessing and sharing who they and others were dressed up as.
There are many studies that have shown that reading to a child, reading with a child, listening to children read and children reading independently is beneficial in so many ways; from boosting their achievement at school to improving mental health and social skills. It was so great to see our students and families value books and the importance of reading on this special day.
Students in the 4/5/6 class are on a mission to read for as many minutes as they can before the end of term. I have loved the conversations we’ve been having about what has been read – both fiction and non-fiction! Please take a moment to listen to reading or talk about what’s been read whenever possible to support the upper primary class in their quest!
