Technology in the Classroom

Teachers at Swansea Primary School believe that utilizing different types of technology in the classroom creates learners who are actively engaged and that it helps create pathways for differentiated instruction to meet the unique needs of students as individual learners. Students throughout the school have begun using different types of technology in the classroom including iPads, laptops, data projectors and digital cameras. With technology becoming such an important way of accessing information its presence in the classroom is vital for preparing students for the future. The use of technology during whole-class instruction can foster student engagement for auditory and visual learners and can increase student engagement helping student to reach their individual learning goals.

During STEAM this year students will spend time focussing on Digital Technology. The Australian Curriculum in Digital Technologies comprises two related strands:

  • Digital Technologies knowledge and understanding – the information system components of data, and digital systems (hardware, software and networks)
  • Digital Technologies processes and production skills – using digital systems to create ideas and information, and to define, design and implement digital solutions, and evaluate these solutions and existing information systems against specified criteria.

A new Computer Lab is currently being created in the Cottage and we can’t wait to start using it. Students are particularly interested in learning coding languages and controlling robots.
