Principal's Report
Wow! That’s a wrap and what wonderful memories we have made.
It takes a tribe - and the whole team to work together to pull off a production like ours.
I am very proud of the staff and each and every student who got up on stage and tried their best for 5 massive shows. Rehearsals begun in Term 2 during music lessons and this show is a credit to not only the students but some very special people I would like to thank again:
- Thank you to our School Association, the Hacker family and our caterers Todd and Alcuin for their amazing paella! - fully donated with 100% of proceeds going towards our new nature playground.
- To our friends, family members and community volunteers, thank you - you know who you are. Special mention to Pam, Ange, Xearna, Abbey… there’s too many to mention.
- Thank you, Janelle for your lighting design and giving us your time to support our show.
- Miss Sophie Walch - our HPE/Outdoor Ed teacher and now new lighting tech! Thank you for being so flexible and knowing when and where to start all 33 song tracks and we really appreciate it. To Miss Walch’s side-kicks Jarrod & Chay – thank you for your help with the mics. Working on 12 headset mics and adjusting volume and making it work is not any easy task so – thank you!
- Thank you to Laura Hay and Entice Hair Studio for donating the hair products and closing the studio for 12 hours to work for our little show! Their hair (and makeup) looked incredible.
- To Mrs Sophie Wilson, our Musical Director, thank you for your theatrical flair, ideas and for not saying no to directing a show for the students. Thank you for choosing Moana as our story and for your patience, persistence and supporting our 456 students to learn and grow in their acting & performance skills. They all have a new found inner strength of courage they’ll take with them and remember always.
- To Mrs Claire Wood, for the weekends and late nights she has spent in the art room plotting, planning, painting and producing all of the magnificent artwork you can see - the backdrops are incredible & the colours, style and creativity you have used has inspired our students and working Tuesdays to create the Props and backdrops whilst also being our soup lady - is remarkable. Thank you!
- To Miss Pearce, our musical extraordinaire. We don’t do things by halves at SPS and not only we’re there 33 songs tracks the children had to learn, Miss Pearce first needed to learn another language, translate the lyrics and then understand the story in Polynesian. The songs were written in English but believe me when I say the Polynesian pronunciation does not match or correlate to English. So, a very, very, big thank you to you Miss Pearce for the sleepless nights you’ve had leading up to the performance and for always looking for ways to improve, ironing out the finer details and of course inspiring our students to be the best they can be - you are amazing and we are so lucky to have you in our team.
- Now, the next one deserves more than words, but to the amazingly talented, patient, clever and creative lady - Bernardette. Thank you for every stitch, every lay, every headband and over 100 exceptional costumes you created from scratch, for our students. They are amazing and the students felt amazing wearing them! Three cheers for Bernardette – Hip, Hip, Hooray! Hip, Hip, Hooray! Hip, Hip, Hooray!
- To ALL staff, thank you for the countless interruptions to your class programs and for your unwavering support for our students, from practising dance moves and songs to missing your lunch break to support rehearsals both at the Town Hall and back at school. From stop work action - to a busted sewer pipe, we’ve overcome some hurdles this week and I’m so proud of our collective efforts.
- Last but not least, to our talented students. Thank you for taking directions, and being resilient when given feedback. I’m not sure I was the most flexible choreographer, but, I certainly am passionate. Thank you for your excellent behaviour backstage and having a go even when you thought you couldn’t do it. You did it, and I am so proud of you all.
There will be a video of our production available for purchase next term. More details to come. Have a safe and happy holiday everyone and we will see you for another amazing Term 4!
