Dear parents, families and community members,

Did you know that we are a b kinder school? Moving into 2025, our SRC will be leading b kinder at Swansea Primary. This is student-led and encourages our SRC to collaborate and connect with their teachers and peers. It helps teach leadership skills such as empathetic listening, problem solving, teamwork and appreciation for diversity. The ultimate goal of the program is to empower and inspire the SRC to weave a tapestry of positivity, kindness and compassion that blankets our whole school.
Part of this program will include two student leadership workshops in 2025 for our SRC to participate in. Our SRC have five key kindness initiatives that they have agreed to lead moving into 2025:
- Leading a b kinder day event at Swansea Primary School
- Establishing a designated "kindness space" within the school
- Demonstrating a commitment to community service
- Instituting methods for recognising acts of kindness among students
- Connecting with other student leaders from other b kinder schools or introducing the concept of b kinder day to a new school
This year's SRC have made the decision to begin acting on the fourth initiative. This incudes awarding a certificate once a week at Breaky and a Book to a student that they have seen demonstrating kindness. The recipient of the certificate is chosen and awarded by a member of the SRC. Well done to Piper, our first b kinder certificate recipient. Piper's certificate was awarded and chosen by Georgia.
A big congratulations to our swimmers that participated in the SPSSA Division F Swimming Carnival at the Hobart Aquatic Centre. The students were a credit to our school and displayed fantastic sportsmanship. Thank you to Melissa and Sophie Walch for organising squad trials and the team on the day. We were able to come away with 3rd place, well done everyone!
Thank you to all of our grandparents and volunteers for attending our Grandparents and Volunteers Breaky and a Book! It takes a village, and we appreciate the amazing role that you play in our students' lives. I have included some photos below from this morning. A big thank you also to Wild Hives Honey for donating local honey for our Breaky and a Book program. While celebrating our grandparents and volunteers, we gave out some certificates around our value of Connection. Well done to the following students for receiving certificates:
- Grade level Connection awards: Arlo, Jaxson, Benji, Lucas, Elora, Holly, Cooper & Hattie
- Aussie of the Month (September, October & November): Melody, Grace & Evie
- Sports Captain awards: Lucas, Hudson, Benji & Joanie
- Principal's Connection Award: Xavier
We are very busy moving into our last weeks of Term 4. I am excited to say that staffing for 2025 is nearly finalised and I hope to share this with you soon.
Kind regards,
Anna Knowles
Principal
Students from Grades 2 - 6 participated in the Remembrance Day commemoration at the Museum and Cenotaph on Monday. Students were a credit to the school and were respectful members of our community. Students made poppies for the commemoration and were able to add them to the ground around the Cenotaph.

This week in K/P/1 we have been exploring the concept of memories as we commemorated Remembrance Day. We read Wilfred Gorden McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox- a story of a little boy who helps his elderly friend find her memories. We talked about objects and symbols as things that help us remember and created paintings.
Toby- I remember lots of things! I keep them in my brain.
Arlo- I remember playing with my dog.

Safeguarding - keeping safe online
As parents and carers, you play an important role in protecting your child from harm in the digital world.
Thankfully, there are many resources available to support your child to safely navigate this world and educate them to avoid harmful online experiences.
Online resources include advice sheets, home learning and family activities, webinars and videos to help you talk with your children about online safety.
Here are just two recommended eSafety resources for further information and support:
- eSafety Commissioner Australia – eSafetyparents
- ThinkUKnow Australia – Resources for Parents and Carers

Governments are working together to design and deliver additional disability supports in the community.
These additional supports are called Foundational Supports and are separate to those delivered through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or mainstream services.
The Department of Social Services want feedback and ideas on how to design Foundational Supports for families and children aged under 9 in their care where there is a developmental concern, delay and/or disability.
Share your thoughts by:
- completing the online questionnaire or providing a submission
- adding a comment to the Ideas Wall
- joining the Tasmanian online workshop on Tuesday 19 November 7-9pm.
