Dear parents, families, students and community members,
Welcome back! I would like to thank all of our families for the wonderful start that we have made to the school year. Our classes have settled well, and all students have big smiles and a positive attitude.
Each class has been busy implementing our new systematic and explicit reading programs, UFLI (K/P/1 and 2/3 classes) and Word Origins (4/5/6 class). Both of these programs are DECYP recommended and align to the strategic goal that "schools will implement a structured, evidence based and systematic approach to teaching reading". This has been led by our Literacy Instructional Specialist, Joanne McLean, and I am looking forward to seeing our students' reading improvements over the school year.
Thank you to the familiy members who attended our BBQ on Wednesday afternoon. It was a great opportunity for families to meet teachers and visit some classrooms. I have shared some photos of our event below. I am looking forward to continuing to work with our familes across the school year.
This year, we have moved away from having a parent handbook. All information that would have been included in our handbook can be found on our public website: Home - Swansea Primary School
I am excited to say that we have been successful in increasing our hot lunch program through School Food Matters to 2 days this year, on a Thursday and Friday. Including our breakfast program that is funded by the school and provided to students on a Monday and Wednesday, we now offer free healthy meals to students 4 days each week. Both of these programs foster student wellbeing and encourage our students to attend school regularly. Our hot lunch program begins on Thursday 20th February.
Kind regards,
Anna Knowles
Principal

Welcome to 2025!
I couldn't be more proud of the delightful group of Grade 2/3's that I have welcomed into the middle primary learning space this year. What wonderful growth we have seen in our students already, all while having a fabulous time together! We learn in many different ways in our class, and here are just a few (ok, maybe a few more) examples of this. Enjoy!

What a great start to the year! Grade 4/5/6 have been super busy getting to know their brand new teacher and our hot off the press spelling program ‘Word Origins’. Word Origins is a lot of fun as it provides students with opportunities to explore where words have come from and how they can change over time. Each day our class learns a new word and we spend time learning the morphemes that make up that word as well as learning the definition of our daily spelling word. During our literacy time we have our daily spelling focus, we read and the students also complete some narrative writing tasks. The book that the students are reading is called ‘Wonder’ and it is keeping us amused as well as helping us with our daily writing.
