It has been a wet fortnight! Thank you to our families for ensuring their children are wearing their uniform with pride and for insisting they are suitably dressed for these wet and cooler days and months ahead. A gentle reminder that when our children do layer up, please be mindful of our Uniform Policy - sticking to navy or yellow if additional tops are worn underneath uniform and ensuring that our school t-shirt or jacket is worn over the top. Similarly, leggings worn under dresses must be navy in colour also. Uniform assistance is available if required so please touch base with us, if required.
I am excited for our upcoming Family Movie Night & SRC Nature Playground Fundraiser scheduled for this Wednesday 23rd June in Swan Hall. If you haven’t sent us an RSVP please do so via phone 62578126 or email swansea.primary@education.tas.gov.au
This week our teachers have been busy preparing and writing our Prep-Grade 6 Mid-year reports. Reports will be sent out on Wednesday 30th June. Please note, we have delayed our ‘parent-teacher’ conversations until the beginning of next term when we are hopeful that the road will be opened and all teachers will be available for the discussions. In the meantime, if you do have any concerns or questions, I encourage you contact your child’s teacher as the first port of call.

If you have any questions please email swansea.library@education.tas.gov.au or phone 62 578 607 (Tues & Thurs)
Initia-Lit in the Grade 2/3 Classroom
Grammar
In our grammar lessons we have been focusing using and identifying pronouns (which replace nouns- it, them, she, his) and adding adjectives (words that describe a noun) to make our writing more interesting for our readers.
Reading and comprehension and fluency:
In our reading and comprehension lessons we have been looking at the purpose and features of persuasive texts. We have been exploring the authors opinion in persuasive texts and identifying the reasons and facts which they use to support it. During these lessons we also work on reading smoothly (like we’re talking), accurately and with expression.
Spelling
In our spelling lessons we have been focusing on tricky words as well as different ways of spelling the /ay/ sound in words (ay, ai and a_e).
On Tuesday we sorted words with the /ay/ sound into the correct columns.

Technology at Swansea Primary!
On Wednesday afternoons, Grades 4, 5 and 6 students participate in a Technology program. The class has been split into two groups – Group 1 has been working with members of our local community at the Hub for woodwork, while group 2 spend the afternoon with our chaplain, Mrs Wells.
Group 1 – Woodwork
As the lunch play bell goes, Group 1 have been thoroughly excited to meet and walk to our local Community Hub for woodwork. What a delight it is to spend the afternoon with Steve and Pia, with their trusty offsiders Laurie and Anne. Steve and Pia have shared their knowledge and expertise in the design and production of a picnic table, which students are involved in from start to finish. The first session consisted of material selection, diagram drawings and measurements, in order to begin the process. Our hub sessions are a joy to be a part of, with students enthusiastically learning about a variety of tools and their safe use for cutting, planing, drilling, chiselling and sanding timber. The table is coming to life and our happy students are loving engaging in its creation. Today, there was even singing from the sanding team!

Group 2 – Chocolate, Chocolate and more Chocolate!!!
Mrs Wells has had a ball with group 2 and their chocolate making activities. Melting chocolate, adding various ingredients and experimenting with dipping has seen a variety of creations take shape! The white chocolate Rocky Road was a real hit, and chocolate crackles were also popular! Group 2 happily share with their peers upon the return of the woodwork group from the hub.

Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Program

Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show
Children can begin learning valuable personal safety education lessons from as young as 2-3 years old. Providing age-appropriate information around body ownership and the right to be safe from an early age allows for these messages to become part of the child’s everyday language and helps to build self-esteem and resilience in children.
Last week Swansea Primary School had a visit from Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show. This Show stars Bravehearts’ lovable lion cub Ditto, alongside a specially trained presenter. This fun, interactive live show teaches children essential personal safety skills and knowledge using age-appropriate language, song, and dance.
We had a wonderful time learning about safety.
