What a phenomenal result from The Great Swansea Art Auction, our School Association's annual fundraising initiative for 2023. Where, 100% of the funds will go directly towards an innovative new art space within the school landscape. The auction was the culmination of many hours of work from our SA Chair, Alice Laing and Vice Chair, Mike Travalia and wider SA committee. The auction was a huge success raising just over $29,000. The evening provided an opportunity for the community to come together and support a common goal, whilst also showcasing the talent and creativity of local artists and our Swansea Primary School students.
With the funds raised, the new art space can now be developed and equipped to provide students with a nurturing environment for artistic expression and learning. This space can serve as a hub for creativity, allowing students to explore their talents and passions in various art forms. This will be a collaborative effort and if you are an artist, teacher, parent we would love to hear your ideas for the development of this new space.
It's worth celebrating this achievement and acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the school and its students. The new art space will likely inspire a new generation of artists and creative thinkers, enriching the school's educational experience and fostering a deeper appreciation for the Arts.
Congratulations, to everyone who contributed to this outstanding result, and thank you!
I am sure the new art space will become a vibrant and inspiring place for generations of students to come.

SPSSA - Winter Carnival Trials
On Thursday 3rd August Henry, Roland and Chelea braved the conditions and headed to Richmond Footy ground to try out for the 2023 AFL SPSSA Bowen Eagles team. All students represented SPS with courage and played well. We wish the Bowen Eagles the very best of luck in the upcoming AFL Gala Day to be held later this month.
On Thursday 10th August, Sophie, Chloe and Ivy travelled to the new South East Stadium in Sorell to try out for the SPSSA South Green Netball team. All students gave it their all and enjoyed playing in the new stadium. Congratulations to Ivy - who made the team and we wish her (and the team) all the best in the upcoming SPSSA South Netball team.
How much can you fit into 3 weeks of learning?
The answer is LOTS! Check out what we've been up to!

The Grade fives and six’s have been busy creating their own Writers Notebook. This is a tool to help our students grow into lifelong writers. It is where students capture observations, reactions, ideas, questions, memories, quotes, sketches, lists or snippets of language. It is a place to experiment, collect and hold onto thinking.
From the School Association Chair - The Great Art Auction
Wow, what a fantastic event the Great Swansea Art Auction was! Not only was it a fun and exciting evening, but it was a hugely successful auction which, thanks to the support of so many in the local area, exceeded our expectations. It was wonderful to see so many families and community members out at Milton on Friday evening to support the school’s new arts hub, so a huge thank you to everyone who came along, bought a ticket, put in a bid, or purchased a piece of art.
Of course, it was all only possible because of the huge generosity of so many people: the incredibly talented artists and crafts people from across Tasmania who so generously donated their time and skills in the stunning artworks we auctioned; the students who, supported by the inimitable Mrs Gadd, created such wonderful collaborative pieces; all those in the school and wider community who supported with their time, contacts, produce, venue; and those who donated directly to the arts hub – in particular a very generous donation from Suzanne Williamson, in the name of her late husband Michael Tierney.
The School Association is delighted to announce that, along with the Sip & Paint event we held earlier in the year, we have raised a whopping $30,265, all to go towards the creation of the new Swansea Primary School Arts space. Creating and making are some of the most important ways we have of expressing ourselves, and fostering this principle in our young people is so important. We can’t wait to share with you the progress on this innovative new space, one which will be a huge asset for the whole community, long into the future.

Parent/Caregiver School Lunch Program Survey
As part of the School Lunch Project, children are receiving free cooked lunches on some days each week. To help better understand the benefits and challenges of providing cooked school lunches, researchers from the University of Tasmania are interested in hearing feedback from parents and caregivers in Term 3. You are invited to complete a short survey. Every parent who completes a survey will go in the draw to win a $20 Visa/Mastercard voucher. We are also conducting discussion groups/interviews with parents and caregivers which will be held at the school, you can express your interest in taking part in the discussion group at the link. Every person who takes part will receive a $50 voucher for participation.
