Call out for Wizard of Oz Prop Materials
Grade 5/6 will begin creating props for the musical in term 3.
Do you have any large pieces of cardboard or core flute board?
Please bring donations in to the school.
Kinder Prep has been listening to and retelling stories with Mrs Gabrielle Morton. Here are some pictures of their retelling of Snow White.

Last week Grade 1/2 went on a field trip to the museum and planetarium in Launceston. There were so many highlights and our brains were full to bursting on the bus ride home. Check out our researchers in action!

We communicated our new learning through drawing, labeling and talking.
My favourite thing on the trip was...
Max: ... in the movie - the blast off noise when the rocket took off.
Noah: ... when the rocket was in the storm on Jupiter. There was lightning and dust.
Matilda:... in the movie when the kids travelled through the rings of Saturn - it was really rocky.
Abbey: ... my favourite is Saturn because of the rings.
Eli:... my favourite planet is Uranus - it's the coldest planet.
Piper: ... being in the Planetarium - it felt like it was moving - like were slipping to the side.
Lincoln: ... when the man showed us that if we get up early we would see Jupiter.
Rydae:... the science play area.
Joanie:...the room that had lots of different things to fiddle with and explore.
Adele: ... touching dinosaur bones.
I learned...
Benji: I didn't know there were that many planets. There's just our solar system but there are lots more way out in space.
Abbey: ... the big red dot on Jupiter is a storm.
Bella: ... that Jupiter is smaller than the sun, but bigger than the other planets.
Matilda: ... that you can see the planets at night and there is a constellation called Scorpio.
Piper:... some planets don't have hard ground.
Noah: ... the biggest planets are made of gas - we call them gas giants.
Olivia: .. that there are gas giants and rocky midgets.
Molly: I learned that Saturn is made of gas - I don't know why it's made of gas.
Max: ... when you are on Jupiter things are heavier than on the other planets. There were cans you could lift and Jupiter's was the heaviest.
Lucas: ... some eggs are smaller than others.

Monday the 1st of June was the day of the Great Muffin-Off!
Grade 3/4/5 donned the hairnets, gloves and aprons and participated in a delightful muffin baking activity. We used our mathematical measurement skills and teamwork skills to follow a recipe, adding additional ingredients to create beautiful, soft, fluffy muffins! We used this activity as a basis to discuss states of matter and how these change with the introduction of heat (Science focus). We even made use of parsley and silverbeet from our garden - our first harvest of the season! It was wonderful to be able to share our muffins with the rest of the school, enjoying these as a whole-school group. We do love our cooking and baking in grade 3/4/5!
I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday and look forward to an exciting and enjoyable Term 3!

The final feast
The grade 5/6 students cooked a Canadian style brunch feast to celebrate our first two terms of school. There were over 40 pancakes cooked and no fire alarm was heard.
I have loved my time as the grade 5/6 teacher at Swansea Primary and feel lucky to have worked at this unique school. I have learned so much from the amazing staff and special students in my three terms here.
Thank you all.

Swansea Primary School is very excited to announce the return of the whole school musical; our unique and student-led version of The Wizard of Oz!
Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have been cast in roles, and students from kindergarten through to grade 3 have already been rehearsing their parts with Miss Brozgul.
This is a show not to be missed and it will be staged at Swansea Town Hall during the Last week of term 3. Tickets will be announced closer to the performance.
We are staging two matinees (day shows) and 2 early evening shows.
SAVE THE DATES: 25th and 26th of September!
We gladly provide the opportunity for every student to take part in our inclusive performance and ask families to inform us as early as possible if your child will be away on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th of September.
Please get in touch if you can help create costumes and props with the students – we'd love your help!
Looking forward to keeping you updated in the coming months,
Sophie Wilson

OPTIONAL ADVANCED SAFEGUARDING TRAINING NOW AVAILABLE IN OUR SCHOOLS
Earlier this year, the Department for Education, Children and Young People rolled out Safeguarding Training for staff, volunteers, and service providers.
This training was compulsory for everyone as part of our ongoing commitment to safeguard Tasmanian children and young people and prevent them from harm.
The department has recently released additional advanced Safeguarding training modules.
These are optional and are aimed at anyone who volunteers at a DECYP site, external providers, and anyone in the community who wants to learn more about how to keep children and young people safe.
If you’d like to build your knowledge in this space, the modules are available on the department’s Safeguarding page.
Note: If you require additional assistance to access the modules, please take a look at the FAQs about technical support and additional assistance, which are also on the department’s Safeguarding page.
