I can't believe we are halfway through this year already! It seems that Term 2 has simply flown by, with so much joy and learning in our classroom.
We've had a fortnight of adventures!
On Friday the 20th of June, we visited Molesworth Environment Centre. Lani and Trish introduced us to the animal room, helped us to cook damper on a stick and led the group in some wonderful team building and communication skills activities. Here's what our students thought about our Molesworth visit:
Matilda: It was fun because the activities were very challenging but we all got through them and helped each other.
Carlix: I really liked Molesworth because the activities were challenging but we all got through them as a team.
Abbey: I loved the environment centre because I love animals. The taxidermy masked owl and all the birds models were amazing because they still looked real, even though they had passed away.
Molly: It was great fun at Molesworth because we really worked as a team. The activities were great and very adventurous!
Max: When I went into the nocturnal room with Carlix, Joanie and Peter, I found the animal that nobody had ever found - an echidna!
Piper: I liked the damper because it was yummy. We used sticks with the dough to cook it over the fire.
Joanie: The damper experience was so good because we got to cook the damper and taste it.
Lincoln: I really loved the team building activities because it did help me work on teamwork better. It was also a lot of fun.
Lucas: I liked the taste of the damper becuase it tasted like pizza crust.
Peter: I liked the environment cetre because there were a lot on animals that I didn't know about. I learnt about the animals in the dark - they come out at night and sleep in the day. They are called nocturnal animals.
Bella: I liked how we had to use teamwork to get our team over the top of the pole, even though it was up to our necks.
Eli: I really, really loved the damper. I added butter, honey and jam and mixed it all up. I liked how crispy it was.
We've since written letters of thanks to Lani and Trish, focusing on correct letter writing format and sentence structure. We added an illustration of our favourite part of our Molesworth visit. The learning has been evident in our classroom, as students are giving deep thought to how they can best share their opinions and work together towards common goals, which is great to see!

On Friday the 27th of June, our travels took us to Triabunna, where we joined in on an East Coast Cluster Cricket day. Cricket Tasmania set up some brilliant activities and kept students engaged and moving! Special thanks to Mr Brockman from TDS for organising and leading activities also, making our day lots of fun!

Our woodwork project is going well, as is our writing practice. We'll be moving on to using our handwriting books next term. Stay tuned for some lovely classroom updates over the holidays, fresh and ready for Term 3!

Susan, Tanisha, Mr Green and I would like to wish our grade 2/3 families a safe and healthy mid year break. We can't wait to hear about all the great holiday experiences when we come back on Monday the 21st of July. Happy holiday birthday to Carlix, and see you all soon!
Sunshine and smiles,
Mrs Sparshott
Term 2 sure has been fantastic! 456 have learnt so many new things as well as having experienced multiple learning opportunities outside of our classroom. Some of the amazing things that we’ve done are creating 3D Animals with paper mâché for Art, participating in and performing for bkinder day, cooking using a camp oven in a fire pit to extend both our Science and Connecting to Culture learning. Then there was National Simultaneous Story Time in the Gym, Cross Country events, the Camp Quality puppet show, the Growing Up program and lots of Science experiments to help us explore Matter. Grade 6 assisted in the local community on many occasions and the 456 students ventured down to Hobart for our Parliament House and a visit to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery excursion. To finish off the term we went to Triabunna for a Gala Day, we performed our animal adaptations presentation at Assembly and we were thrilled to attend the Hong Kong Children’s Choir at the Swansea Town Hall. Wow, sounds like we need a holiday!

Kindergarten health checks are offered to all kinder students at Swansea Primary School and are undertaken for all who provide written consent. They have been taking place throughout Term 1 and 2. The kindergarten health checks sit within the Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing Framework, which include these domains: Being loved and safe, Having material basics, Being healthy, Learning, Participating and Having a positive sense of culture and identity.
These health checks include vision, hearing and oral health screening to ensure students are best able to access and participate in early learning. They facilitate access and onward referral when necessary and with consent, to appropriate and accessible health care. It also enables school health nurses to initiate and support activities to improve health literacy within families and the broader community.
