As we begin to feel the cold of Winter, we, as a staff are feeling thankful to those families who are being proactive and keeping their children at home when they are presenting with any flu like symptoms. The common cold and all of the associated symptoms, runny noses, coughs and feeling lethargic are becoming prevalent once again. There is no need for a doctors certificate unless the symptoms persist for 3 or more days, but, it is more important than ever to keep your child at home until their symptoms subside.
Over the coming weeks, staff are preparing for a modified Mid Year Report for Prep to Grade 6 students. This will be sent home at the end of week 2, Term 3. Parent Teacher meetings will not be compulsory this term, although, should you wish to communicate any concerns or changes in circumstances, please book in a time, email or call when it is convenient for you. We will always return your call at our earliest convenience.
Monday, July 20, day 1 of Term 3 is a staff Professional Learning Day and student free day. On this day, all staff will be participating in a whole school approach to spelling. The program is called 'SMART Spelling' and will support our MultiLit programs currently operating throughout the school. The following short videos will provide you with an introduction into this method and a lesson in action.

As we are acutely aware, the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are immense. Thousands of Tasmanians have lost their jobs and many businesses and industries are facing significant challenges as they navigate out of ‘hibernation’ to a new way of operating.
In response, Brand Tasmania, the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Tasmanian Government teamed up to build the Buy Something Tasmanian website. It’s a simple directory of businesses that are open during the evolving COVID-19 economy making it easy to support Tasmanian businesses, searchable by region, by service, by product, by experience. It’s also a way for all businesses to work on their brand stories, to move into e-commerce, and to create strong relationships with Tasmanian customers.
There are over 1,000 businesses on the site, owned and operated by Tasmanians, with everything from designer products to delicious food and beverages.
With restrictions lifting we are free to explore Tasmania again and tourism operators are adding their listings to the Buy Something Tasmanian campaign Make Yourself at Home. I encourage you all to visit the websites below and support local business as well as start planning your trips, visits and excursions today.

Thank you to all of our families for continuing to adhere to messages of remaining offsite over this period. With the relaxation of restrictions, we would like to welcome you back onsite from Term 3 to drop off, or collect your child from their classroom. We know this is a valued opportunity to touch base and connect with teachers and other students. Please remember to maintain social distancing measures and stay home if you are unwell. We are looking forward to welcoming you all back really soon, we know it's been hard!

In our maths lessons we have been focusing on number lines, addition, subtraction and place value. We have also been working in our new ‘Daily maths’ books which have quick daily activities to support our current learning in maths.
Recently our class has been talking about what kind of environment we want our classroom to be so that everyone feels that they can learn as well as feel safe and happy. We decided on a set of classroom rules that would help us all work together to create a calm and focused classroom environment. We also came up with some similar rules for the playground.

In English we have been sharing our comprehension of texts by reading the same book in small groups. Everyone chooses one or two questions for the group to discuss. Sometimes everyone agrees, and other times we have different opinions.
We consider questions that are either literal (where the answer can be found in pictures or words on the page) or inferential (where we make assumptions about what the author wants us to think and use our own knowledge to answer the questions).
In Science we have been finding out about the solar system. It was fun to debate if we would like to go to the mood and why. 2/3 of the class would not like to go to the moon!
The grade 3 and 4 group investigated the power of the sun. They used light sensitive paper to make shadow prints using objects from the classroom.
