Dear parents, families, students and community members,
We would love to see you meet your child/ren inside school grounds at the end of the day, rather than the carpark
Did you know that before COVID, families used to meet their children at the end of the day on the lawns at the front of the school or at students’ classrooms? We would love to get back into this practice, rather than having parents/carers meeting their child near the gate.
We have a couple of reasons for this. The end of the day is very busy, and currently we have lots going on near the gate to the carpark during this time. By picking your child up inside the school grounds, we hope that it will alleviate the busy nature of the carpark/gate area. We also love seeing families within the school. Coming into the grounds at the end of the day means that you are more involved in your child/ren’s schooling. You have more chance to talk to your child’s teacher, rather than just over the fence at the end of the day.
Trivia Night
THANK YOU to the School Association for hosting, and the community for attending, our Trivia Night. Thank you to the Swansea businesses and organisations for their amazing donations for this event, and it could not have been a success without the support from the Swansea Community. The School Association raised $8102.21 from the Trivia Night, with funds raised going towards the Canberra Trip.
Book Week Parade
It was fantastic to see so many costumes at today’s Book Week Parade! Well done to everyone who dressed up, and we have some photos from today further below in this newsletter. Thank you to the families who attended the event, it was great to see you there.
Canberra Trip & Presentation of the RSL Donation
I can’t believe that the Canberra trip is here! Grade 4/5/6 students are off to Canberra next week, from 18th August – 21st August with Mrs Kirkham-Phillips, myself, Mrs Gadd and Mr Green. Venues that we will visit include:
- Australian War Memorial
- Parliament House
- National Zoo and Aquarium
- High Court of Australia
- National Gallery of Australia
- Government House
- Australian Institute of Sport
We are going to be very busy! Also this week, I visited the Swansea RSL Sub-Branch along with students Ruby and Hudson, to receive the RSL’s donation from the Hangi Night for the Canberra trip. The RSL raised $12,000 from the Hangi Night and have split the donation 50/50 between the East Coast Salvos and Swansea’s Canberra Trip. Thank you so much to the RSL Committee for their generous donation.
Kind regards,

This fortnight shall be short and sweet
Fun photos are always such a treat
In Art we've made some gorgeous pots
And painted them, some stripes, some spots
In maths we've made some number lines
In different increments, in books, outside.
Young Tassie Scientists came to visit too
Some sciency fun for all our school
Farewell for this fortnight, see you soon
We're off on excursions (but not to the moon)
The beach, plus May Shaw, Hobart too
Then we'll have more photos to share with you!

With only three sleeps to go now till our Canberra trip, it’s been really hard for the 456 students to focus on anything other than our upcoming adventure! 456 have however managed to still work on other exciting projects that have occurred around the school. We worked together to help make some great posters for our Trivia night, which raised more necessary funds for 456 to head to Canberra.
In Art this fortnight, we’ve been creating some original wool creations. We planned these in the Art room and then headed to Jubilee Beach to finish them. Quite a bit of sand managed to work its way into our creations, but it was such a beautiful way to finish the week that no one seemed to mind a few extra grains of sand in their artwork.
456 have also been spending more time outside of the classroom preparing for our oral presentations. The students have been very appreciative of the opportunities to work in our amazing school gardens and down at the beach as we practised ways to use gestures and project our voices. In Health we’ve been looking at our daily physical activities and how these can assist with our overall wellbeing.
One of the highlights this past fortnight has been our trip to Triabunna for the Honour Tour for Young Tasmanian Australian Recipients. It was great to meet the three talented and gifted individuals who inspired many of the students. Opportunities like this are a great way to see how local Tasmanians can make a difference in our local community and to the broader world.

Hi, as the Safeguarding Lead for our school this year, part of my job is to help make sure children in our school community are safe, secure and supported. Part of doing this is making adults aware of what they can do to help. Safeguarding children is everyone’s job! Click the link to find out more. Tell Someone

Dear families,
On Friday the 22nd of August, students in Grades 2 - 6 will be travelling to Hobart for the Festival of Bright Ideas (FOBI). With over 30+ exhibitors, students will immerse themselves in the wonderful world of science through hands-on activities; explore sustainability initiatives for a better world; and find out how Tasmanians contribute to the advancement of society and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Grade 2/3:
Grade 2/3 students will be attending this festival as a whole class group. We understand that some students may be away due to siblings coming back from Canberra the night before. Students’ educational provision for the day will be at FOBI.
Grade 4/5/6:
For Grade 4/5/6 students we understand that this may not be possible due to returning from Canberra the evening before, however we do warmly invite students to attend. For students staying in Hobart on the night of Thursday the 21st of August, you are welcome to meet our school group at Princes Wharf at 10:45am. We can also happily arrange drop offs on the way to/from Hobart on the day. We would appreciate communication from Grade 4/5/6 parents of what your child will be doing on the 22nd of August so we can plan accordingly.
Itinerary:
8:40 – depart SPS, travel by bus to FOBI
10:45am – arrive 15 minutes early for session, toilets etc.
11:00am – session commences with scheduled activities
12:00pm – scheduled activities conclude, groups may explore FOBI activities at leisure until 12:30pm
12:30pm – lunch and play in Parliament gardens
1:00pm – depart for SPS
3:00pm – return to SPS
This excursion is a minor excursion and therefore we do not require permission forms to be returned. If you would like any further information or do not wish for your child to participate in this excursion, please contact us through the school office.
Families that are needing their child to be dropped off at Lady Gowrie Child Care Centre, please make contact with the school office
