Welcome to Term 2!
It is so lovely to have the students back at school and although this has been a short week, Week 1of 11, we have hit the ground running and our classes have resumed, and routine has recommenced. We had had Tas Fire Service here this week conducting Fire Safety Education classes and you will no doubt have completed the fire safety plan for your home. Thank you!
Teaching staff ended Term 1 with a combined East Coast Cluster Schools Moderation Day at Triabunna District High School. The day was filled with Professional Learning, meeting together to assess work samples against the national curriculum and achievement standards. It was a successful day and we are planning for another sometime in Term 3.
Net, Set, Go was a hit at Bicheno - it's still not too late to enrol so please send me an email if you are interested.
We are pleased to announce Circus/Acro classes will be held in Swan Hall each fortnight, thank you to Ange Boxall for organising this activity for our students.
Swansea Primary School, in conjunction with the Swansea Tennis Club are excited to offer our families free access to the courts outside school hours. A key will be required and can be obtained via the school office. Alternatively, for your own key, please join the Swansea Tennis Club association. We can pass on their contact details.
We are excited to report that the Bike and Scooter track has finally been ordered! Manufacture usually takes 16 weeks so we are hopeful with transit the track will be ready to officially open in our 100th year. Funds raised from our Heritage Fete will be contributed to a new nature play area to join the new bike and scooter track. If you know someone who has skills in landscape design or keen to help out please let us know!
We look forward to welcoming more families onto our school grounds and hope these initiatives will be warmly welcomed by all.
Have a great fortnight!

Prep/One Term 2
P/1 have had a fantastic start to term 2. Children have been sharing all the learning they have done over the holidays with their family and friends. We have already had two maths lessons and have been learning more about numbers. In English we will be beginning a new program called Smart Spelling. In Smart Spelling we will be having fun while we learn how to spell common words. We have been exploring some new child lead learning environments in out Inquiry Room including a jungle, doctor and vet clinic.
A highlight of our first week back was a visit from the Tasmanian Fire Service. Alison taught us that we don’t have to be scared of fire fighters in their masks and that if there is a fire we need to “Get down LOW and GO GO GO!”.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to
The Cotton Family for their kind donation of $500 towards our Cheerleading Program
&
Entice Hair Studio for kindly donating $151.20 from the SRC raffle to go towards new basketball backboards.
If your child is absent from school or they may have a change of plan from their normal end of day schedule
please contact the school office on 62 578 126, email swansea.primary@education.tas.gov.au or let us know via the Schoolzine app prior to 2.15pm, however we understand that this at times is impossible.
Please remember that duty of care for all students starts at 8.30am and finishes at 2.45pm (unless you are a Cranbrook bus student)
Given the students numbers that are travelling on the bus on a Monday and Tuesday we will continue to only have one bus in the afternoon servicing the Swansea & Cranbrook area. If numbers increase this will return to a two bus service.
SCHOOL LUNCH ON FRIDAYS
Every Friday a cooking group will work with Beth to prepare and serve lunch to the whole school. All students and staff will sit down and share lunch together.
Our Sustainable Learning "Community" project and food is subsidised by Bendigo Bank and as such, there will be no charge for the food offered. Please continue to pack your child some lunch for these days as they may still be hungry or may not be keen on the menu!
Gluten free and vegetarian options are available but will only be prepared if a student is going to eat the alternative. If your child is gluten free or vegetarian, please let us know in advance if there are any dietary requirements for the menu below. A whole terms notice would be terrific for our planning preparation and grocery order. Thank you for your support of this initiative.

Dear parents,
Coming into the cold and flu season, it’s important that we all continue to keep healthy and safe. To ensure we can keep on top of COVID and also cold and flu, make sure you:
- Be alert to any symptoms of cold or flu that you or your child may exhibit
- Get tested for COVID if you or your child have symptoms
- Practise good hygiene, such as covering coughs and sneezes and washing hands
- If you or your child do get sick, stay at home until symptoms has passed, even if a COVID test is negative
Remember, symptoms include fever, tiredness, cough, headache, sore throat, sniffling and sneezing.
To keep our school safe, we are still:
