We’ve had a great end to the semester although unfortunately, due to inclement weather, the East Coast Colour Run at The Spring Bay Mill (SBM) in Triabunna has been postponed. We are already looking forward to dates when all three schools can partipate. Regardless, I would like to thank, Miss Murray for her miticulous planning of the event and Glamorgan Spring Bay Council for providing a monetary contribution of $200 per school for transport as well as Triabunna Pop Up Book Stall (PUBS) for their support and funds towards the combined SBM BBQ and transport of $3450 because without their support this event wouldn’t even be a possibility.
You will have been inundated with information regarding Mid – Year Reports that were sent home yesterday. This Semester, Swansea Primary School students in Year 1 – Year 6 have been assessed against the new 9-point scale in English, Maths and Science and Health and Physical Education has been assessed using the 5-point worded rating by Miss Walch. Prep students in 2022 will only receive an end of year report using this format. Kinder students have recently received their Kindergarten Development Check results via face-to-face interviews with Miss Pearce and Prep to Year 6 interviews will take place in Week 1 of Term 3 from the 26th-28th July. For teachers and parents to come together and discover areas of weakness and strengths of a student can help the student immensely towards achieving their aspirational and personal goals.
Yesterday we held a virtual awards assembly to celebrate the growth and contribution of many of our students and staff this semester. It was wonderful to have over half of our parents join us but if you missed it - please enjoy the recording below.
I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable break, whether you're planning on staying put on the East Coast or venturing off on a holiday destination. Keep well, and we will see you all next term. Students return on Tuesday 26th July.

Middle Primary have been working very hard to improve their handwriting this term. As a class, we have been using individual whiteboards with lines to practise our letter formation, names and daily phonics focus. We have also worked hard on number formation and direction, as well as skip counting patterns.
Why is Handwriting important?
The brain engages differently when we write something by hand as opposed to typing it on a keyboard or by touching a screen. Studies show that writing improves memory; students retain learning better when working with new ideas through handwriting instead of typing. When children learn to write by hand they not only learn to read more quickly but they are better able to generate ideas and retain information.
Why is Skip Counting Important?
In grade 1, we focus on investigating and describing number patterns formed by skip-counting and patterns with objects. Students develop confidence with number sequences to and from 100 by ones from any starting point. Skip count by twos, fives and tens starting from zero.
In grade 2, we focus on investigating number sequences, initially those increasing and decreasing by twos, threes, fives and tens from any starting point, then moving to other sequences.
In grade 3, students learn to describe, continue, and create number patterns resulting from performing addition or subtraction.
Middle Primary are very proud of all the work they have been doing with successful results.

2022 All Schools State Cross Country Championships Photographs
This year is the first year that the All Schools State Cross Country Championships has had official photographers on the race course.
We photographed every race from 9 year olds through to U20. We can’t be certain, but we believe we captured a photograph of every student who raced. With over 5,700 images across the two days, there’s every chance that every student from your school could have a picture on our website.
As most parents would be unaware of our efforts, could you please include a notice in the school newsletter?
Access to the site is via this link:
www.photographtasmania.com.au/events
Families can then select either the Primary or Secondary school's event, then select the race that the student competed in.
Digital images start at $4 and prints start at $4.50.
School Association Bingo Bonanza Update
Wow, what a fantastic event the Bingo & Curry Fundraiser ended up being! We had a great turnout from the local community on the night, with over 70 guests coming along to try their luck against Fay Read and her brilliant bingo calling bonanza. It was a hugely fun and entertaining evening and by the end of the night we had raised over $4,000 for the school and its new Community Nature Play Space. We couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of our families and the wider community so a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along on the night, to Tracey & Claire for the delicious curries, Mayfield Estate, Spring Vale & Splendid for the bar, the school staff for their tireless work to get us event ready and, of course, all the wonderful local businesses who so generously donated the raffle and bingo prizes, making the event a sure-fire fundraising success story.
