Numeracy Skills in Kinder/Prep
Every day in the Kinder/Prep class we become more aware of the numeracy skills we use to solve problems. These skills are like a toolbox that we can draw from when ever we need. When we practise using these skills they continue to grow.
Here are some examples of the mathematical based learning experiences we have enjoyed this week!
Georgina
“I’m sorting the shapes by colours.”
Flora
“I’m putting the numbers in the right order.”
Ella
“I’m cutting up 20 biscuits to share out.”
Melody
Melody is making ‘12’ using one ten and two ones.
Riley
“I’m making a giant Swan/Oyster pattern!”
Lincoln
“I made a snake using triangles.”
Felix
Felix investigating the question ‘can numbers be halved...and how can we show this?’
Baily
Baily practising his counting skills!
Zeb
Zeb’s hands are green because he has just finished measuring various ingredients to make the class a new batch of playdough!
Emmett
Emmett brought some coins to class. This sparked a morning investigation into different types of Australian coins, their names/values and what makes them unique!
Poppie
Poppie’s playdough forest!
The Lollipop Song
12 lollipops in the candy shop,
Round and fat with sprinkles on top.
Along came a boy with a penny one day,
Bought a lollipop and took it away!’
