A huge part of our profession is learning and continually growing and as previously mentioned I have been lucky to participate in the TPA Conference, Principal's Briefing and Principal Forum recently. This fortnight, Professional Learning has been a key priority for our teachers and their personal professional growth. They have participated in several aspirational opportunities:
- Mrs Wood and Miss Pearce visited Riverside Primary School to see an inquiry based approach where the learning assets of students as thinkers, collaborators, communicators, self managers and researchers are a vital part of the school ethos and pedagogy.
- Mrs Sparshott, Miss Pearce & Mrs Wells attended two PL's on: Using quality literature to improve writing outcomes – an Inquiry Learning Partnership with guru Misty Adoniou.
- Mrs Sparshott, Miss Pearce, Mrs Wells and Miss Van Galen attended Designing Powerful Journeys of Inquiry with and for Learners at C3 Church in South Hobart with the wise and wonderful Kath Murdoch herself.
- Melissa attended the Tasmanian School Administrators' Association Conference in Launceston.
All staff will be sharing back their new knowledge and understandings and we look forward to circling back as a team to reflect on our practice and learn together.
I've been devasted by the news of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II's passing and look forward to celebrating her life in our Royal Tea Party Event on Monday. Morning
Tea will be provided for all students. Be on the look out for Her Majesty at drop off on Monday! Due to our busy end of Term with our Moana Jr. musical, we have decided to postpone our Term 3 Assembly to early in Term 4 - more details to come.
Kristy Hay
Principal
On Monday 19th September, staff and students are invited to dress up in royal attire to celebrate the life of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at a royal garden tea party at the Kinder Cottage.
Students are encouraged to bring their uniform and/or suitable footwear to walk to the Town Hall after our shared royal morning tea for Moana Jr. Rehearsals.
Every year we conduct School Satisfaction Surveys to find out what your child's school does well, and where it could improve.
Your feedback is really important to us, and helps to inform school improvement planning and decision-making.
The survey is open until 23 September.
To access the survey for your child’s school, please contact them directly.
eSafety Virtual Classroom National Child Protection Week 2022
eSafety Virtual Classroom
National Child Protection Week 2022
As part of National Child Protection Week 2022, Upper Primary students participated in a 45-minute virtual classroom webinar with the eSafety Commissioner to learn how to identify personal boundaries and support each other to stay safe online. The key learning outcomes included building the capacity to: describe what it means to be safe online, identify personal online safety boundaries, recognise strategies to support others, recall protective behaviours, and learn reporting skills and help-seeking techniques. It was great to be in a webinar with many different schools from all over Australia. We enjoyed collaborating with other schools and seeing the live data collected in real-time.
Please see the attached video and flyer about free upcoming webinars for parent information on digital technologies and mental health.
Monday 17 October 12.30 to 1.30 pm & Thursday 27 October 12.30 to 1.30 pm
Middle Primary have spent their maths lessons focussing on grouping numbers this fortnight. Following morning attendance, we analyse how many students are in the classroom. We then determine whether we can place this number of students into equal groups. We have looked at mathematical vocabulary including odd, even, equal, groups, multiplication and division. We are beginning to understand the relationship between addition, doubles and groups of two. We know that the multiplication symbol means groups of and that the division symbol means sharing into groups. Students have used concrete materials to represent this learning, including unifix cubes, paddle pop sticks and themselves!
This week we also farewell Eliana from Grade 1. Eliana has been a deligtful member of our class and we wish her and her family all the very best on their new adventure!

Moana Rehearsals are in full swing at the Swansea Town Hall.
Sustainable Learning Lunch Program
Rehearsals for Moana Jr. are in full swing, and we are excited that we are on countdown, to showcasing this spectacular performance of Moana Jr.
Due to our upcoming rehearsal schedule being on a Friday at the Swansea Town Hall, we have decided to cancel our Sustainable Learning Lunch Program for the remainder of Term 3.
Students will require to bring a cut lunch and a drink bottle to school with them on a Friday for the remainder of Term 3.
Student Led Conferences New Booking System
We are excited to be conducting Student Led Conferences again this year. The feedback from families last year was overwhelmingly positive and so, all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be sharing their 2022 personal learning journey and goals this year. Student Led Conferences are not a parent teacher meeting. They are run by the students as a way for them to communicate and celebrate their learning and at the same time help to foster student agency, growth and develop our feedback culture at Swansea Primary. Students collectively enjoy sharing their achievements and we would like to invite families to visit classrooms in Week 1 of Term 4.
Sessions run for approximately 20 minutes.
Please note all existing bookings remain if you have already booked.

PLEASE help your child to practise their lines and songs for homework everyday! COSTUMES All performers will be required to wear black as a base layer, over which, their costumes will be worn. By Monday 18th September we are asking for all students to bring into school; black long pants and black long sleeve top. Make sure clothing is named so it can be returned to families at the end of the performances. HAIR & MAKE-UP All performers will have basic hair and makeup provided on the night. It is all part of the excitement, however, if you do not wish for your child to have their hair or makeup done or they suffer from any skin allergies etc. please let the office know ASAP. They will need to have an early dinner prior to arriving at the Hall. Fruit and snacks will be provided throughout the evening for them to graze. BYO DEVICE – At your own risk We have decided that to help reduce the noise and to provide entertainment/activity for the students during the evening performances, they are permitted to bring along their own device at your own risk. This means, students will be responsible for the device they choose to bring and will only be able to watch and use the programs/apps they are allowed to view at school as this is a school event. Permission to bring a device is a family-based decision. We will bring along the school iPads and other activities for students to keep them entertained while backstage. AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSALS As we approach the performance dates, they will likely be additional rehearsals for particular characters after school at the Town Hall. You will be notified closer to the time if your child is required. We are all really looking forward to a fun evening! If you haven’t got your tickets yet – do so! It will be amazing. Regards,

Tasmanian School Administrators' Conference Association
2022 Conference
Shaping the Future, THE NEW NORMAL
Last week I attended the TSAA Conference for 2022 at the Country Club Casino, the two day conference was jam packed with a great line up of guest speakers and sessions with the Department of Education and the Conference Sponsors.
The TSAA Conference has been running conferences for the last 23 years!
The title of the conference: Shaping the Future, THE NEW NORMAL was looking at ways to come together since COVID-19 and embracing the importance of networking with your collegues and having the opportunity to be face to face, rather than sitting infront of a screen and zooming in!
Coming together and brainstorming new systems that are about to land in schools with many of our systems being updated.
The collaborating between Tasmania School Business Managers and Australian School Business Managers is always really interesting to see how our systems work in either states.
The Leading Guest Speaker Clairemadden was fantastic to listen to on Generation Z, engaging the generation of post millennials.
Leaving the conference is always a real sense of renewed energy and optimism, new awareness, knowledge and long lasting memories and relationships which broadens professional growth and confidence.

Body Kind Youth Survey - Student Voices Can Make a Difference
Butterfly Foundation is inviting all young people aged 12 - 18 to have their voices heard about body image. This is a chance to complete the first national survey on body image, Body Kind Youth Survey, so Butterfly can better understand the body image experiences of young Australians, get young people's views on what needs to change to create a more Body Kind Australia and advocate to the top levels of Government. The online survey is voluntary, anonymous, has ethics approval, takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and requires parental consent for under 15's. Help Butterfly help more young people to be kinder to their body and encourage your child to take part. They can enter the draw to win a gift voucher when they participate. Tasmanian Training Awards 2022
A former student of Swansea Primary School Abbey Quinn has won the 2022 School Based Trainee/Apprentice of the Year. This is a great recognition for our small rural school that Abbey attended from Kinder to Grade 6 and started making those connections for her passion of assisting the elderly, with many of her primary school years having the lovely engagement our school has with our community and especially Mayshaw Nursing Centre.
Surfer Groms Competition at Clifton Beach
